About Ally
By Mike Theoharis and Juliet Johnson-Moore
Allison, Ally, Jo-Mo, Big Al, or sister, is taking gumption as well as experience as she heads out on her grand adventure. From a young age she has traveled to other countries as well as almost all the islands in Hawaii, since she was born and raised there. She is a bit spoiled with beautiful beaches and mountains, but I am sure that this trip will exceed her already amazing experiences.
Allison is not only travel savvy, she’s basically the smartest person I know. Since graduating from Stanford University with a Master of Science in Structural Engineering she has worked for Middlebrook and Louie inc. as a Structural Engineer. What is that you ask? Simply stated, she makes buildings stand up.
Basically, things don’t get built without people who are as smart as Allison is. In fact, she is arguably the smartest person to ever attend USC (where she did her undergraduate). To say Ally is a die hard Trojan football fan would be an understatement… just watch her scream at the television sometime when “her boys” are playing. After her Trojans lost to Stanford last year in the greatest upset in college football history she actually punched out an innocent bar stool. Very out of character for Ally who in most cases is pretty much the nicest person ever.
However, USC football is one of the only things that can keep Ally inside for more than hour (that and cooking huge meals which will be discussed later.) Allison comes from a family of people who don’t really know the idea of just “taking it easy”. She grew up playing basketball and tennis, going sand sliding, boogie boarding, and body surfing, kayaking down to coast of Kauai and out to the “Mokes” on Oahu, hiking with her crazy uncle with a machete, jumping off of high cliffs into water far below, and diving into pounding winter surf on the north shore of Oahu. She made everyone else look like a wuss growing up, but now she’s calmed down and only goes backpacking, skiing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, kickboxing, biking, scuba diving, plays basketball and softball (although her enthusiasm definitely outweighs her skill), and occasionally builds the odd home or two. While on the Fantastic Voyage Ally she certainly will be able to indulge in her many hobbies.
Another passion of Ally’s is organizing events and cooking copious amounts of food for those events. Her home on Hyde Street in San Francisco’s Russian Hill has become a part of San Francisco lore, as tourists pass by on the cable car wondering where all the laughter and good cheer is coming from. Allison is the one responsible. By the end of the evening usually showers her love on all those that attend through not only her awesome food but the simple phrase she has made famous, “I love you guys.”
While on the “FV” Ally certainly will miss her parents Randy and Lynne and her sister, Juliet as the people she most admires in life. When discussing her sister she describes her as, “The person who is not afraid to leave everything she knows behind and actually DO what everyone else only talks about doing!” By embarking on the FV Ally certainly joins her sister in the category of adventure seeker.
