ABOUT KRISTIN

Written by Teresa Hambelton and Mike Theoharis

The Basics

Kristin Shaff is a Seattle native (well, Everett technically – a city due north and just as rainy). Although her heart now belongs to San Francisco, she fondly refers to the state of Washington as home. On the Fantastic Voyage she will miss all of her amazing friends but she’ll especially miss mom Kendra, dad Stan brother Scott, and little Kelly (aka the “best niece ever”).

True Love

There’s a reason this girl was named “Most Athletic” by her senior class. A few words describe her athletic prowess – runner, kickballer, golfer, soccer player, softballer, skier, snowboarder and basketballer. No wonder Kristin has achieved legendary status as the easiest recruit to participate in any and all San Francisco co-ed sports.  Sports and Kristin – they just get along.

Career Tracks

Naturally, it’s no surprise that Kristin thrives in her sports marketing career. Motivated since day one as an Everett Aquasox college summer intern (well, actually as Webley the Frog), Kristin always knew what she wanted and took the steps to get there.  From Washington State University (where she was all about Cougar Athletics  – Go Cougs!), she embarked to South Bend, Indiana, to work as a Notre Dame athletic department Marketing Assistant. Shortly thereafter, it was on to Arizona State to earn her MBA (Sports Business emphasis).

“Diddy” in “the City”

From ASU, she accepted an Account Executive position with GMR Marketing and was eventually promoted to Account Supervisor. She currently focuses on the Visa account. It makes sense because like Visa, and let’s be honest here people, Kristin really is everywhere you want to be. Forever the humble one, Kristin downplays her skills but she’s in fact built a very strong reputation thanks to her many professional talents! GMR will be sad to see her go.

Plans are for Tools

In June 2009, you’ll see Kristin back in San Francisco and hopefully you don’t mind if she crashes on your couch until she re-enters the real world. First things first though – she’s focused on the six-month Fantastic Voyage (“FV”), truly a dream come true. On the FV (a Kristin coined acronym – after all, overuse of acronyms has been her thing since 7th grade), she’ll spend substantial time hiking and backpacking, two favorite pastimes. Luckily her pal Ally will be with her so she can indulge in her favorite pastime of all – talking.

Buh-bye to all things FKA great

While she’s embarking on her FV, other things she’ll miss include Anderson Cooper and The Daily Show, running through the Presidio, the Final Final, the GG Bridge, and, of course, Tahoe. She’ll also miss the rooftop at her Greenwich Street apartment.  But, quite frankly, it’s a minuscule price to pay for traveling the world and living out a lifelong dream.
